CheruPayar Thoran




Ingredients

  • Green Gram (cherupayar) - 1 cup
  • Green Chili - 2 no
  • Salt - To Taste
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 /4 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1tsp
  • Curry Leaves - 1 spring
  • Red Chilli - 1
  • Water - 1/2 cup

 To grind (to coarse)

  • Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Pearl onion (kunjulli) - 2 nos
  • Jeera (cumin) - 1 pinch
  • Salt  - 1 pinch
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp



Method
----------
  1.  Soak cherupayar  for a minimum of 4 hrs  with enough water.
  2. Cook soaked payar with water, salt, chilli,  turmeric, powder for 2 whistles/ until done.
  3. In a pan add oil.Splutter  mustard seeds followed by red chilli and curry leaves.
  4. Add cooked payar and saute for 2 mins
  5. Add grounded coconut mixture and cook for 2 more mins.
  6. Switch off and add 1 tsp oil and curry leaves at the top.It enhances the taste.
  7. Serve hot with  puttu, rice or kanji.
