Chemmeen  thoran



Ingredients

  • Prawns (chemmeen) - 1/4 cup
  • Shallots - 3/4 cup (chopped)
  • Drumsticks(Muringakka) - 1 cut into 2 inch long pieces (optional)
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Curry leaves - 1-2 spring
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dried Red chilli (unakka mulaku) - 2 nos
  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Oil - 2 tbsp

 To grind (to coarse)

  • Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Pearl onion(kunjulli) - 2 nos
  • Jeera (cumin) - 1 pinch
  • Salt  - 1 pinch
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Method
----------

  1. Cook drumsticks and prawns in 1/4 cup water with salt chilli,and turmeric powder until done and all the water has evaporated.
  2. In a pan add oil.Splutter  mustard seeds followed by red chilli and curry leaves.
  3. Add chopped shallot , green chilli  and saute till it becomes translucent.
  4. Add cooked drumsticks and prawn to this and saute for 3 mins.
  5. Now add grounded coconut mixture and cook for 2 more mins.Serve hot with rice.
Notes
--------
  1. Shallots can be substituted with onions but shallots gives more flavour.
