Ingredients

  • Fish -1/2 kg
  • Onion -2 (slice)
  • Green chilli -4 (slit into 2)
  • Tomato - 1
  • Curry Leaves - 1 spring
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece
  • Garlic- 4  big pods
  • Turmeric Powder -1/4 + 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder -1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder -1/4 tsp
  • Cloves - 3
  • Cardamom -3
  • Cinnamon -1 piece
  • Thin coconut milk - 11/2 cup
  • Thick coconut milk  - 1/2 cup
  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Lemon juice -1 tsp
  • Oil
  • Salt - to taste


Method

  1. Clean and cut fish to medium pieces.Marinate it with salt, turmeric powder, pepper powder and garam masala for minimum of 1 hr.
  2.  Shallow fry it and keep aside .
  3. In the same oil add whole spices and saute for a while.
  4.  Add sliced onion, green chilli, curry leaves  saute till onion becomes translucent.
  5. Add salt,turmeric powder and water and bring to boil.
  6. Add fried fish pieces followed by thin coconut milk and in medium heat cook fish pieces until done.
  7. Now reduce heat to low add thick coconut milk.
  8. Remove from fire and add 1 tsp lemon juice ,sliced tomato, 1 tsp oil and curry leaves at top. Best with bread and palappam.

Notes
----------
  1. The more time you keep the fish marinated, the more taste it would be.
  2. Reduce the heat to low before adding thick coconut milk else it will turn turbid.
  3. Lemon juice can be substituted with vinegar.
