Ingredients
- Moong Dal (cherupayar parippu) - 1/4 cup
- Chana Dal (kadala paruppu) -1/4 cup
- Green Chilli - 1
- Water - 1 cup
To splutter and pour
- Onion - 1/4 cup chopped
- Chopped garlic - 1/4 tsp
- Tomato -2tbsp (chopped)
- Turmeric Powder -1/4 tsp
- Kashmiri chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves - a few (chopped)
- Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1 pinch
- Dried Red chilli -2
- Curry Leaves - few
- Asafoetida/Hing - 1 pinch
- Kasoori methi - 1/4 tsp
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Ghee - 1 tsp
Method
- In a pressure cooker, add both dals, water, salt ,turmeric powder and green chilli . Cook for 4- 5 whistles/ until done..
- When the pressure is released , open the lid and mix dal well with a spoon.The dal should not be too mushy..Add extra water if the dal is too thick..
- In a kadai add oil and ghee.
- Splutter mustard seeds , jeera seeds, red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add chopped garlic, onions and saute until becomes brown.
- Add chopped tomato, coriander leaves, kasoori methi, kashmiri chilli powder and hing.
- Pour the tadka over cooked dal and keep in low flame for 2 more mins.
- Serve hot with roti, chappathi, naan
