Ingredients
  • Moong Dal (cherupayar parippu) - 1/4 cup
  • Chana Dal (kadala paruppu) -1/4 cup
  • Green Chilli - 1
  • Water - 1 cup

To splutter and pour

  • Onion - 1/4 cup chopped
  • Chopped garlic - 1/4 tsp
  • Tomato -2tbsp (chopped) 
  • Turmeric Powder -1/4 tsp
  • Kashmiri chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - a few (chopped)
  • Mustard Seeds -  1/4 tsp
  • Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1 pinch
  • Dried Red chilli -2
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Asafoetida/Hing - 1 pinch
  • Kasoori methi - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Ghee - 1 tsp


Method

  1. In a pressure cooker, add both dals, water, salt ,turmeric powder and green chilli . Cook for 4- 5 whistles/ until done..
  2. When the pressure is released , open the lid and mix dal well with a spoon.The dal should not be too mushy..Add extra water if the dal is too thick..
  3. In a kadai add oil and ghee.
  4. Splutter mustard seeds , jeera seeds, red chilli and curry leaves.
  5. Add chopped garlic, onions and saute until becomes brown.
  6. Add chopped tomato, coriander leaves, kasoori methi, kashmiri chilli powder and hing.
  7. Pour the tadka over cooked dal and keep in low flame for 2 more mins.
  8. Serve hot with roti, chappathi, naan
