Nadan Kozhi (Chicken) Curry




Ingredients

  • Chicken pieces - 500 gms
  • Onion - 1 (cut lengthwise into thin pieces)
  • Shallots (chopped)  - 1 cup
  • Tomato (chopped) - 1/4 cup
  • Potato (cut into big cubes) - 1 small
  • Crushed ginger - 1 tsp
  • Crushed garlic  - 1 tsp
  • Green chilli (slit lengthwise)  -  4
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri Chilli powder - 2 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander Powder -1tbsp tbsp
  • Garam Masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry Leaves
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 3tbsp + 2 tsp
  • Water -1/2 cup


To marinate

  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 2  tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala powder - 1/4 tsp

Method

  1. Clean and cut the chicken into medium size pieces.Marinate it with ingredients in "To marinate" section  and keep for at least 2hrs.
  2. In a pan add oil.Saute ginger ,garlic, curry leaves.
  3. Add onions and shallots,green chilli and saute till it becomes light brown. 
  4. At this stage add turmeric and kashmiri chilli and saute till raw smell disappears and oil starts oozing out.
  5. Add chopped tomato and saute till oil starts oozing from the gravy.
  6. Add marinated chicken pieces and mix well.Add 1/2 cup water. Close lid and cook until half done.
  7. When chicken is half done add cubed potato
  8. Cover and cook again till the chicken and potato is cooked completely and the gravy thickens.
  9. Sprinkle garam masala.
  10. Last add fresh curry leaves and 2 tsp coconut oil
