Vanpayar thoran
Ingredients

- Red Gram (vanpayar) - 1 cup
- Green Chili - 1 no
- Salt - To Taste
- Turmeric Powder - 1 pinch
- Chili Powder - 1 tsp
- Oil - 1 tsp
- Curry Leaves - 1 spring
- Water - 1/2 cup
To grind (to coarse)

- Coconut - 1/4 cup
- Pearl onion(kunjulli) - 2 nos
- Jeera (cumin) - 1 pinch
- Salt - 1 pinch
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

- Soak Vanpayar overnight with enough water
- Cook soaked payar with water, salt, chilli, turmeric, chilli powder for 4 whistles/ until done.
- When the pressure is released, open the lid and drain the water.
- In a pan add oil.Splutter mustard seeds followed by red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add cooked payar and saute for 2 mins
- Add grounded coconut mixture and cook for 2 more mins.
- Switch off and add 1 tsp oil and curry leaves at the top.It enhances the taste.
- Serve hot with puttu, rice or kanji.
