Dried Green Peas Curry



Ingredients

  • Dried Green Peas - 3/4 cup
  • Onion -1/2 ( thinly sliced)
  • Tomato - 1/2 (cubed )
  • Green chilli - 4 (slit into 2)
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
  • Chilli Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder -1/4 tsp
  • Thin coconut milk - 11/2 cup
  • Thick coconut milk  - 1 cup
  • Water - 1cup
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
Method

  1. In a pressure cooker add oil and splutter mustard seeds..
  2. Add sliced onion, green chilli, curry leaves  saute till onion becomes translucent.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and tomato  and saute well.
  4. Add coriander, chilli, turmeric powders, garam masala and salt and saute till raw smell disappears.
  5. Add dried green peas and saute for 2 mins
  6. Add 1cup water and cook until done.(mine took 7 whistles)
  7. Once pressure is released open the lid and add thin coconut milk and bring to boil.
  8. Now reduce heat to low add thick coconut milk.
  9. Add 1 tsp oil and curry leaves at top.
  10. Tastes  best with appam, bread, chappati, palappam
