Chicken Stew







Ingredients

  • Chicken - 1/2 kg
  • Onion -1 ( thinly slice)
  • Green chilli - 4 (slit into 2)
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece(chopped)
  • Garlic - 4  big pods (chopped)
  • Potato Cubed - 1/4 cup
  • Carrot Cubed - 1/8 cup
  • Green Peas (boiled) - 1/8 cup
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
  • Pepper powder -1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder -1/4 tsp
  • Cloves - 3
  • Cardamom -3
  • Cinnamon -1 piece
  • Thin coconut milk - 11/2 cup
  • Thick coconut milk  - 3/4 cup
  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Lemon juice/Vinegar -1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Salt - to taste
  • Crushed Pepper - 1 tsp
  • Cashew Paste - 2 tbsp

To Marinate

  • Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - 2tsp
  • Ginger garlic Paste - 1 tsp






Method

  1. Marinate chicken with ingredients in "To Marinate" section and keep for 30 mins.
  2. In a pressure cooker add oil.
  3. Add whole spices and saute for a while.
  4. Add sliced onion, green chilli,ginger garlic, curry leaves  saute till onion becomes translucent.
  5. Add coriander powder, garam masala and salt and saute till raw smell disappears.
  6. Add marinated chicken pieces and saute for 2 mins
  7. Add 1/4 cup water and cook for 3 whistles on med  heat.
  8. Once pressure is released open the lid and add cubed potato, carrot and green peas and cook for 1 more whistle.
  9. Open lid and add thin coconut milk and bring to boil.
  10. Add cashew paste and mix well.
  11. Now reduce heat to low add thick coconut milk.
  12. Remove from fire and add 1 tsp lemon juice/vinegar and crushed pepper .
  13. Add 1 tsp oil and curry leaves at top.
  14. Tastes  best with bread and palappam.
